I am an Iowa native (Mt. Pleasant) with a theater and a history degree from Clarke College (now Clarke University) in Dubuque, Iowa, and a master's degree in writing from Lesley College in Cambridge, Mass. I've worked as everything from a proofreader to a lifestyle magazine editor and freelance writer for the past 30 years, with success. I worked for 8 years as the lifestyle and business reporter for the Mercer Island Reporter, where I won 12 writing awards. I've written freelance lifestyle and business articles for the Seattle Times SE Living and Shop SE sections as well as for other Seattle area publications. I am now retired and a widow as of 2025. I live with my son in Maple Valley, where I wrestle with my Crohn's disease, arthritis and asthma, as well as type 2 diabetes.
