I remember when we were in Ireland, 15 years ago, to celebrate St Patrick's Day in Galway, and how disappointed we were that all the pubs were full. You, typically, found a way to celebrate that was serious, by visiting the local Cathedral and going to Mass. They wouldn't allow me in because I am not Catholic, but Muff managed to talk her way in to see the chapel and pray.
In honor of today's memories, here's a song that I recently saw on the television on VH1 Classic (yes, that is a thing now, believe it or not! Most of the videos you and I watched at Clarke are now played on this channel) that was popular at Clarke because it had all these religious lyrics and talked of saying Hail Marys.

An Old Irish Blessing
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, and rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand. |
A Gaelic Christening Blessing
Dearest Father in Heaven, Bless this child and bless this day Of new beginnings. Smile upon this child And surround this child, Lord, With the soft mantle of your love. Teach this child to follow in your footsteps, And to live life in the ways of Love, faith, hope and charity.
A Wish for a Friend
Wishing you a rainbow For sunlight after showers— Miles and miles of Irish smiles For golden happy hours— Shamrocks at your doorway For luck and laughter too, And a host of friends that never ends Each day your whole life through!
An Irish Prayer
May God give you... For every storm, a rainbow, For every tear, a smile, For every care, a promise, And a blessing in each trial. For every problem life sends, A faithful friend to share, For every sigh, a sweet song, And an answer for each prayer.
Well, I hope you are having quite the celebration up there in heaven, my friend. God love you, and keep your soul safe. I miss you, as always.
